They have the capability of turning a plain ballroom into the dream reception for a happy couple. This is a very fulfilling career in because this person is directly involved with the very beginning of a bride and groom's new life together.

If you are interested in this type of work as a career, you may need to work under someone with experience and a proven track record first. Absorb all you can from this job, take notes and consider what you would do differently. Take classes in subjects such as management, flower arranging, event planning, and even accounting if you plan on owning your own business.

Choosing invitations may be a first step in assisting a new, nervous bride. Observe her tastes in clothes, accessories and home furnishing to get an idea of her tastes. Talk to her about her background and what she is looking for before assisting her with a selection. Emphasize the importance of proper wording and proofing the final product before ordering.

Linens may also be a big decision. They should match the theme or colors of the reception. They can be patterned or solid or even a mixture if the couple so desires. It is your job to find them exactly what they want at the right price. You must also work with the reception venue to set up the schedules of placing the linen on tables to work with the food service team that is setting up the tables.

Many couples really love the effect subtle lighting can have on their reception area. Up-lighting in a darkened room can lend the area a dramatic appeal. Spotlights on the dance floor will make the couple stand out for their first dance together. Your job is to find the lighting company that can deliver the effects desired at a reasonable price.

Room arrangements will definitely depend on the bride and groom's preferences and budget. Some may prefer a head table and some not. Rectangular tables for the guests can be very dramatic but round ones are easier for conversation. Helping the couple decide on the best arrangements will require your expertise on flow and aesthetics.

Wedding event designers are dedicated, creative individuals who want their clients to have the very best for their special day. Working odd hours, doing manual labor as well as handling brain-bogging changes are a requirement of this job. It may be demanding but it is also fulfilling knowing that you are helping a couple start off on the path to a new life together.
